Attachment characteristics and emotion regulation difficulties among maladaptive and normal daydreamers

Abstract Maladaptive daydreaming is an excessive form of which causes significant distress and functional impairment to the affected individuals. Research on maladaptive has intensified in recent years, but its pathogenesis not yet been clearly elucidated. The aim study was examine attachment characteristics difficulties emotion regulation among normal daydreamers. 717 individuals were recruited online, 106 whom screened as results Attachment Style Questionnaire revealed a specific style daydreamers, who characterized by ‘Ambivalent-fearful’ characteristics, while daydreamers showed ‘Secure-independent’ style. Regarding difficulties, significantly higher level deficit each subscale Difficulties Emotion Regulation Scale compared findings highlighted potential role early experiences etiology daydreaming, well presence severe deficits problematic present might give contributions development psychotherapeutical treatment daydreaming.
